The MaHeWa (Marine Heatwaves) project officially began on 27 November 2024, with a kickoff meeting held at the IRD Representation in New Caledonia from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, attended by numerous partners and the ANR. |

On 28 March 2025, IRD in Nouméa hosted the first collective intelligence workshop as part of the MaHeWa project, focused on managing marine heatwaves in New Caledonia. The primary goal of the day was to address two key questions: what should be done when an imminent marine heatwave is announced? and what are the priority themes to incorporate into a collective strategy? More specifically, the workshop aimed to inform stakeholders about marine heatwaves and their impacts, identify actions to implement, determine barriers and levers for intervention, and co-develop a management unit and a tailored communication plan. |

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of 5 Argo floats in New Caledonia as part of the MaHeWa-OO project (LEFE/GMMC). These high-precision instruments will enable monitoring of the vertical structure of marine heatwaves around New Caledonia. |

The MaHeWa project, focused on research and management of marine heatwaves in the Pacific, has officially secured funding from the French National Research Agency (ANR) under the PPR Ocean and Climate programme (France 2030). The first kick-off meeting will be held on Wednesday 27 November to outline the goals and main action lines of this innovative initiative. |
