A Day Rich in Discussions
During this meeting, scientific, institutional, and local partners had the opportunity to revisit MaHeWa’s ambitious objectives: understanding the impacts of marine heatwaves on ecosystems and island communities, assessing associated risks, and co-developing decision-making tools and adaptation solutions with local stakeholders.
The meeting was enriched by a presentation from the ANR, which outlined the contractual details and expectations tied to the funding under the France 2030 Plan.
A Friendly Moment with Chef Koce
The evening concluded with an on-site cocktail reception, providing everyone with the chance to extend discussions in a relaxed atmosphere. Chef Koce Alphonse elevated the occasion with his culinary specialties, showcasing the tropical flavors of New Caledonia. This moment of sharing strengthened the bonds among participants, underscoring that collaboration is central to the project’s success.
Next Steps
The MaHeWa project is now moving forward with the organization of field missions and the establishment of the first thematic webinars, scheduled for early December. These regular exchanges will help structure methodological approaches and initiate the first collaborative actions.
We warmly thank all participants for their presence and commitment during this kickoff meeting. The collective momentum generated provides a solid foundation for addressing the challenges posed by marine heatwaves in France’s Overseas Territories.
