WP1: Exposure to MHW thermal stress

WP1 aims to assess the risks of exposure to marine heatwaves (MHWs) across various territories by utilizing observational data and numerical simulations. This work package will analyze large-scale MHWs and their impacts on specific lagoons/atolls, as well as project their future characteristics. The objective is to identify the areas most exposed or protected to guide territorial management. WP1 includes three defined tasks, coordinated by S. Cravatte:

Task 1.1: Characterizing and understanding past large-scale MHWs (all territories)

Leaders: S. Cravatte (LEGOS, IRD, NC) and T. Izumo (SECOPOL, IRD, FP)

Task 1.2: Understand lagoons exposure to MHWs (Territories: FP and NC)

Leaders: R. Le Gendre (ENTROPIE, Ifremer, NC) and S. Andrefouet (ENTROPIE, IRD, FP)

Task 1.3 MHW’s future evolution (all territories)

Leaders: C. Menkes (ENTROPIE, IRD, NC) and M. Lengaigne (MARBEC, IRD, France)
