MaHeWa represented at the “Cyclo pour le Climat” event in Toulouse

On October 5th, Alexandre Ganachaud, Research Director at IRD (Laboratoire d’Études en Géophysique et Océanographie Spatiales – LEGOS) and member of the MaHeWa project, represented the consortium at the “Cycles for the Climate” event organized by Météo-France at the Lac de la Ramée in Toulouse.
This friendly and engaging day dedicated to climate change awareness brought together many institutional, scientific, and citizen actors around activities, talks, and workshops.

🎙️ Alexandre Ganachaud gave a short public talk on marine heatwaves, introducing the MaHeWa project and its objectives: to better understand, model, and anticipate marine heatwaves (MHWs) in the Southwest Pacific, and to support island territories in adapting to these extreme phenomena.
🌍 In parallel, he co-led, together with Cathy Ganachaud, a Climate Fresk, a quiz, and the Carbonline awareness game, offering a fun and interactive way to discuss the challenges of climate change.

Within MaHeWa, Alexandre Ganachaud co-leads CCT.1 “Fostering adaptive crisis management through transdisciplinary research”, alongside Mareva Maamaatuaiahutapu (Direction de la Recherche de Polynésie française).
This working group develops a transdisciplinary approach to strengthen adaptive climate crisis management through collaborative workshops. These sessions aim to simulate collective responses to marine heatwave crises, co-design decision-support tools (MHW bulletins, vulnerability maps, CiguaWatch system), and enhance coordination between scientists, managers, and local communities.

The event was part of the international Cycling 4 Climate initiative, launched in the Netherlands in 2020 to raise public awareness of climate urgency through symbolic cycling events illustrating future sea-level rise.
