Welcome to Alesie, a new intern in the WP3 !

Mahewa

Originally from Lifou, she holds a Master’s degree (Master 1) in Tourism and Sustainable Development and is currently preparing to enroll in the EGEL Master’s program (Coastal Environment Expertise and Management) at the University of Brest for the September 2026 intake.

As part of the Cadres Avenir program, she is undertaking a two-week immersion internship at UMR Espace-Dev within the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD), under the supervision of Catherine Sabinot.

She is contributing to the MAHEWA project, which aims to co-develop decision-support tools and practical solutions to address the growing threats posed by marine heatwaves in French overseas territories in the Pacific.

In line with her academic and professional trajectory, she plans to conduct interviews and field observations with coastal communities in New Caledonia during her future Master’s internships. This work will contribute to Component 3 of the MAHEWA project, which seeks to assess the vulnerability of Pacific island populations to environmental risks associated with marine heatwaves.
