Awareness · March 2026 MaHeWa co-facilitates the Ocean Fresco in Koné alongside the Northern Province |
|
On Thursday 5 March, the Ocean Fresco workshop was held in Koné. Inspired by the Climate Fresco, the Ocean Fresco consists of six themes and uses a set of 100 cards to build a systemic view of the ocean. It is rooted in an awareness-raising approach and allows participants to discover the issues related to the ocean and the actions that can be taken to preserve it.
The workshop was funded as part of the MaHeWa research project, which is committed to understanding how the ocean works and what it means for the country’s inhabitants, and is focused on helping to anticipate marine heatwaves. Offered to Northern Province officials, it was held in the afternoon, led by Soizic Fleury and supported by members of MaHeWa, with four participants per table. Several provincial departments took part in the event: the Nature Conservation Department (DDEE*), the Ports and Airports Department (DAF*), the Educational Activities Department (DEFIJ*), the Pharmaceutical Supply Unit (DASSPS*), the Sustainable Development Department (DDEE), the Aquatic Environments and Resources Department (DDEE), the Communication and Organisational Support Department (DSI*) and the Impacts Office (DDEE). The fact that some participants now wish to lead their own workshops is proof of the initiative’s success.
